PUB SUCCESSION
HEINEKEN
Ireland is home to the family pub. Since 1872, the family name must appear above the door. But with many publicans retiring, and 84% of family members unwilling to take over, these names risk disappearing.
On remote Achill Island, McLoughlin’s Bar has been in the same family for 155 years. Josie McLoughlin wants to retire, but there’s no one to take over.
To keep the name alive, we created a platform to help retiring publicans find successors with one condition: they must have the same surname. We launched it with a global search for the next McLoughlin, targeting 88 million people of Irish ancestry across 128 countries.
